Show N' Read Saturday #23–DEXTER

A weekly meme hosted by Diantha Jones where we share and rate TV shows and movies we've seen, and the books that we have read or have now been inspired to read.

This week I watched:

Dexter (2006–2013) on Showtime

He's smart, he's good looking, and he's got a great sense of humor. He's Dexter Morgan, everyone's favorite serial killer. As a Miami forensics expert, he spends his days solving crimes, and nights committing them. But Dexter lives by a strict code of honor that is both his saving grace and lifelong burden. Torn between his deadly compulsion and his desire for true happiness, Dexter is a man in profound conflict with the world and himself. (

I am SOOOOOOO SAD that this show is gone forever now! This show rocked my universe and is one of my favorites ever. Eight seasons just wasn't enough. Never thought I could love a show like this as much as I did and will forever continue to love. There will never be another show like it. It was sexy, violent, gruesome, captivating, brilliant, and dare I say, fucking emotional. I will miss Dexter's ruthlessness and utter lack of feelings for mankind. He was a beautiful person, but he was a freaking psychopath. He was AMAZING. One of the most intriguing characters I've ever followed in a show, if not the most. The supporting cast, especially Deb, were so beyond awesome and they helped make this show as spectacular as it was. If you haven't seen this series, you MUST. You will be taken on the ride of your life! 5 STARS just doesn't do it justice. I LOVE YOU "DEXTER"!

My rating: 5/5 STARS

Book I Want to Read:

Darkly Dreaming Dexter (Dexter #1) by Jeff Lindsay (2004)

Meet Dexter, a polite wolf in sheep’s clothing...a monster who cringes at the site of blood...a serial killer whose one golden rule makes him immensely likable: “he only kills bad people.”

Dexter Morgan isn’t exactly the kind of man you’d bring home to Mom. Though he’s playful and has a wonderfully ironic sense of humor, Dexter’s one character flaw (his proclivity for murder) can be off-putting. But at heart Dexter is the perfect gentleman, supportive of his sister, Deb, a Miami cop, and interested only in doing away with people who really deserve his special visit. Dex is quite good-looking but totally indifferent to (and, frankly, a bit puzzled by) the attentions paid to him by women. Despite the fact that he can’t stand the sight of blood, he works as a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police department, a job that allows him to keep tabs on the latest crimes and keep an eye open for his next quarry.

Dexter’s well-organized life is suddenly disrupted when a second, much more visible serial killer appears in Miami. Dex is intrigued, even delighted, by the fact that the other killer appears to have a style reminiscent of his own. Yet he can’t help but feel that the mysterious new arrival is not merely invading his turf, but reaching out to him as well. This new killer seems to be doing more than copying Dexter—he seems to be saying, “Come out and play.” Dexter’s secret life makes for a lonely existence...even a lovable monster can be intrigued by the prospect of finding a friend. (Goodreads)
How could I not want to read this series now? I just have to have more! It'll be great to immerse myself in that world again. I can't wait!
